Lead Tin Yellow Light Pigment

This is lead stannate (or lead tin yellow I) which is quite a lot paler than the picture indicates. If you look at the pictures of the Ghent altarpieces, it is the same colour as the highlights in gold and that is what I use it for and it does a very good job. Ideal, really - a single component paint that is the right colour for a particular job.

The pigment is nice and fine but being quite high in density, if you want to make a tube of the oil paint, you need to stabilise it with some beeswax, otherwise it will all settle to the bottom of the tube.

It works nicely in water colours using acacia gum and acacia honey to make half pans or whatever quantity you need.
