Cadmium Brown is a shade of Cadmium Red, a synthetic organic pigment that has been in use since the 1920s. It is formed by heating cadmium sulphide and selenium, the hue is determined by the level of calcination and proportion of selenium. It is very opaque, and lightfast, with a high tinting strength. It absorbs a small amount of oil, and dries very slowly to form a hard, flexible paint film.

Schmincke Liquid Charcoal 15 ml

Liquid charcoal in the 15 ml tube - a clean, dust-free way of painting, charcoal drawing and underpainting with charcoal. The three pigments of natural origin used for this (PBK 8, pit black) are created by charring fruit seeds from the EU area and result in the following unique coal nuances: a neutral peach stone black - 18 757 a warm, brownish cherry pit black - 18 756 a cool, bluish grape seed black - 18 755 Due to the larger quantity of available paint, liquid charcoal can be used to quickly process large areas. The liquid charcoal contains the high-quality binder gum Arabic like traditional artists' watercolours (gouaches, watercolours, etc.), has a gouache-like consistency and can be diluted with water, so that different shades, structures and layer thicknesses can be achieved by different application. Depending on the substrate and the thickness of the layer, it can be wiped off by hand and removed with water. Used as thin underpainting (e.g. in oil painting), subsequent paints do not become dirty or become less dirty than with conventional charcoal underpainting due to the higher adhesion of the bound carbon pigments to the substrate. Of course, the liquid charcoal can be combined with drawing charcoal. The blurring and removability of the liquid charcoal depends on the surface of the substrate - the more even and firm the surface, the easier to change the application. Pre-tests are recommended. Parchment Clippings, usually waste goatskin vellum, were utilised throughout the Middle Ages to make an animal hide glue. This continued to be commonly used as a sizing for canvas before rabbit skin glue came to prominence in the nineteenth century. Parchment glue is comparable to isinglass glue, as it also produces a very pale, almost transparent glue with a degree of flexibility. Carnauba Wax Grey

Carnauba Wax is the hardest wax commonly used in the production of artists' materials, with a melting point of 83-86°c. It is derived from a tree native to South America, and is available in a natural colour (grey), or a refined colour (pale yellow). Small amounts of carnauba wax are commonly used in both oil painting mediums and encaustic painting, usually in conjunction with beeswax to add toughness, durability and sheen to the paint film. It creates an inflexible surface, so works best on rigid supports such as gesso panels, and it should be noted that it will raise the melting point of encaustic mixtures.
